On the evening of Friday 5 April, Swimming Taranaki will host a whole raft of regional swim events at Wai o Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre as part of the 2024 TET Taranaki Masters Games. Rennie Naicker, Aquatic Services Team Leader at Wai o Rua, couldn’t be more excited.
“We’re big on encouraging fitness and fun at every age. Some people haven’t swum competitively since their last school swimming sports, and for many in the Masters category, that may have been a while ago. Taking part in the Taranaki Masters Games is a great way to push yourself and experience competition again in a fun and social environment,” says Rennie.
Competitors need to be aged 20 years or older to take part in the Masters swimming events, and entries are open right up to one day before the competition takes place.
“Our team at Wai o Rua are super proud that we’re a venue for the Masters Games’ swimming events. We get to show off Stratford and our wonderful pool complex to visitors from across the region,” Rennie says.
“We’re hoping for a great turnout; not just of competitors, but also supporters, too. We look forward to recorgnising plenty of our Stratford regulars giving it a go on the day, but our team here will be cheering loudly for everyone who takes part.”

Registration for the swimming events runs from 6pm – 6.30pm, with racing beginning at 7pm after a warmup.
